The Awards Banquet for 1999 was held at
Lamb's Farm, Libertyville, Illinois. As we've done before, we
invited everyone to come dressed as they fly or as they would
LIKE to dress to fly.
Our special Guest of Honor this year was
Paul H. Poberezny, Founder and Chairman of the Board of EAA.
To say that the members of the Chapter were excited to meet Paul
would be an understatement.
The attendance was a record, the food was
great, the prizes fantastic, and everything about this banquet
made it a night to be remembered.

At the entrance
to the banquet, folks check in, get their name tags, and buy
their raffle tickets.

The band, again
this year, was The Marks, minus our Chapter member, Ron Price,
who had to be in Florida on business.

During the social hour,
the members enjoyed Paul's company, especially our youngest Antique/Classic
enthusiast, Scott.

Our guest of
honor, Paul Poberezny, was introduced by Chapter President Doug
MacBeth. Paul spoke of his years as an aviator and about EAA
to a packed house of Chapter 414 members.

After his talk,
President MacBeth presented to Paul, on behalf of Chapter 414,
a black marble and mahogany plaque in appreciation for all Paul
had accomplished for Sport Aviation.

Of course, the
reason for an Awards Banquet is to present awards. All of the
Chapter Officers of 1998 were presented with Certificates of
Appreciation (lower left). Founding member Rufus Howard and Dick
Cobean were presented with Past President plaques (middle). William
"Bill" Butler was presented with a Special Recognition
Award for his outstanding work as our top Young Eagles pilot.

The raffle gave
away everything from biplane rides to brand new aircraft instruments,
from dinners for two to free EAA memberships, from books to comm
headsets. And, oh yeah, there was that free aerobatic hour in
the Zlin!

Toward the end
of the evening, it was time for a few special photos. Doug MacBeth
and Paul Poberezny smile for the camera (left). Jim Hull, Chapter
Treasurer, joins them (center). Finally, everyone joins in for
a group photo of EAA Lake County Chapter 414. We adopted Paul,
so he's in there too!

See you there! |
