EAA Chapter 414, Lake County, Illinois

1998

The Annual Awards Banquet of the Lake County Chapter of EAA was held at Lamb's Farm Country Inn, Libertyville, IL, on March 14, 1998. Over 60 people attended and we had a great time! The food was terrific (thank you Lamb's Farm!!!!) and the people were out for a good time!

This year, instead of dressing up, we invited members to come dressed "as you fly or how you'd like to dress to fly". As you'll see in the pictures, some of the members know to let people know they're pilots!

"Capt." Bill Hurtenbach (right) celebrated his 50th birthday at the banquet. He was more pleased than he looks here.
Left to right: Ty Englehardt, President Doug MacBeth, and Guest of Honor E. Allen Englehardt.
Grand prize this year was a ride in this Grand Champion Warbird with Jack Harrington, President of EAA Warbirds of America. Ty Englehardt had the winning ticket.

The other big prize was a ride in the brand new Gaddis Glasair. Dave McCormack wanted this ride so bad he bought a pile of raffle tickets. Good thing he won!

Other prizes included Coleman flashlight sets, Blackhawk headset, t-shirts, and more!

Founding Chapter member Rufus Howard shows just a little of his gyrocopter-orange flying clothes. With him are Chapter Treasurer Jim Hull and Kathleen.

Guest of Honor E. Allen Englehardt. Al is a 747 pilot, FAA designated examiner, CFI, and a knowledgeable, entertaining speaker at Wings Program forums. Al was presented with a plaque in commemoration of his efforts and accomplishments in advancing aviation.

To all of us, he is simply "His Airworthiness"!

With so much going on, the band had little to do! When they did get a chance to play, The Marks were terrific!
Only E. Allen Englehardt could make the Part 61 rule changes fun to hear about! "Praise the Administrator!"
Ed Simpson (left) and E. Allen Englehardt. Just a couple of CFI's
Other scenes around the banquet hall........
The RV contingent was out in force. Although out of uniform here, Mike and Arleen came dressed in matching, black Van's Air Force jackets, headsets, caps, and sunglasses. Very cool!
Bob and Arleen Merrick really enjoyed themselves! The bear said little, but smiled continuously.
   A good time for all!

To everyone who came to the banquet - Thank you! To everyone who did not - what are you waiting for? Come on along next year!!
